Payment Terms and Cancellation Policy

deposit

A 50% deposit must be paid to Westwood Stone Company (WSC) prior to ordering your stone and scheduling your installation. The final 50% payment is due upon completion of installation. If payment is not received in full within 10 working days of the project being completed and invoiced, a 2% charge on the total outstanding balance will be added to the invoice. If any legal action must be taken by WSC to receive the money owed, the defendant will pay all legal costs associated with the process, including court costs and attorney’s fees. All cancellations are subject to a 15% handling fee. Orders from stone distributors are final and cannot be canceled. WSC reserves the right to collect material if the method of payment has been declined, voided, or not received within the agreed-upon time period.

Credit/Debit Card Processing Fee

A 3.5% credit/debit card processing fee will be added to all invoices using credit or debit cards. We hate processing fees as much as the next guy. Blame the card processors, not us!

Cancellation Fee

We understand things happen that are out of your control that may affect your scheduled installation appointment. We ask that you notify us as soon as possible to reschedule your installation appointment. Scheduled installation appointments that are cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment may be subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

slab storage

WSC will hold your slabs for up to 30 days. After 30 days there is a charge of $50 per month to hold slabs.

Measurement & Templating

  • Cabinets must be fully installed prior to scheduling your measurement or template appointment. WSC is not responsible for misalignment between the upper and lower cabinets.

Fabrication

The fabrication process requires skill and expertise. Our fabrication team is very knowledgeable and uses their expertise to strategically plan every job. There are many variables that may affect the fabrication of your stone.

  • Every slab of stone is unique and material varies in color, veining, and other characteristics.
  • Natural stone may have fissures, cracks, or pits that must be avoided.
  • Vein direction and pattern is determined by WSC during the fabrication process to best utilize your material.
  • Quantity and location of seams are determined at the discretion of WSC.

Installation

  • Cabinets must be fully installed, with no layout changes, prior to scheduling your installation appointment. WSC is not responsible for misalignment between the upper and lower cabinets.
  • Any overhang over 10” for natural stone and over 12" for quartz must have additional support every 24” to 36” in the form of brackets, corbels, or steel reinforcements. This should be discussed prior to installation day and can be provided by WSC with an addtional cost.
  • Sink(s), faucet(s), and cooktop must be onsite, but not installed. Apron or farmhouse-style sinks must be set into place (with a ¼” gap on either side), but not hooked up prior to template and installation. WSC is not responsible for connecting electrical, gas, or plumbing hookups.

Material Disclosure

All stone materials are unique and have specific pros and cons that we want to ensure you are aware of.

Quartz

Quartz is a man-made stone that is very durable and with proper care and maintenance will hold up very well in most settings. While stain and scratch resistant, it's certainly not impossible. Spills should be cleaned up to prevent staining. Particular caution should be taken with items that can leave rust marks. You should not cut directly on quartz surfaces. Always use a trivet or hot pad for items with a temperature of 150 degrees or hotter. Quartz should not be used in areas with direct sunlight (outdoor settings).

GRANITE

Granite is a natural stone that is typically very durable and with proper care will hold up very well in most settings. Fissures and pitting are naturally occurring features in granite and should not be considered defects. Granite slabs typically display minimal variations in background color, veining distribution, and veining pattern

Marble, Dolomite & Calcite

Marble, dolomite, and calcite are natural materials and often displays great variations in background color, veining distribution, and veining pattern. Fissures and pitting are naturally occurring features in these materials and should not be considered defects. Marble, dolomite, and calcite are highly prone to staining and will etch easily and quickly - often within just minutes of being exposed to many substances, including common foods and beverages. Even with regular cleaning, the surface of these materials will change, dull, and age over time – similar to other natural materials such as hardwoods.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a natural stone that has many qualities of other natural stones, including great variations in background color, veining distribution, and veining pattern. Fissures and pitting are naturally occurring features in quartzite and should not be considered defects. Quartzite is a very hard surface similar to granite, that will not scratch easily. However, due to their mineralogical makeup, some quartzites may be prone to staining, oxidation, etching, and can show absorption of waters and oils into the stone. Liquids and substances that have both acidic and oily qualities are more susceptible to absorbing into the stone. It does not take excessive force or neglect to stain quartzite countertops. They will wear, age, and distress with normal and everyday use. Due to the porous nature of this material while it works through our wet shop it will have longer production times. This is to ensure the tops are completely dry prior to the sealant being applied. There is no material/product warranty provided for this product should liquid absorption, staining, etching, discoloration, or damage occur to the stone or for natural characteristics. There is a craftsmanship warranty on the installation and labor.

Care & Maintenance

  • Natural stones will be sealed prior to installation. It is recommended to reseal natural stone surfaces every twelve months or more for fragile natural stones (specifically quartzite, marble, dolomite, calcite, etc.) to prevent moisture from absorbing into your countertops. Some stones will absorb more sealer than others, so multiple coats of sealer may be necessary. Reseal the stone anytime the stone looks darker when the surface is wet. WSC cannot be held responsible for moisture absorption, staining, etching, or chipping of the material during or after fabrication and installation.
  • Avoid using heat on both natural and engineered countertops. It is always advised to use a trivet with feet (not touching countertop). Liquids and oils can penetrate the stone, even if sealed, and cause permanent staining. It is advised to clean up any spills thoroughly immediately to avoid staining. Certain chemicals can also affect and should be used with caution.
  • WSC recommends using a natural stone cleaner (specifically designed for natural stone care) to clean your countertops. For quartz countertop care and warranty information, please see the specific distributor website.
