we're here to help

How do I get started?

It’s simple! We just need your countertop layout and a stone selection in order to provide you with an estimate. You can stop by our showroom to select a stone or check out our Stone Inventory to get inspired. You can email us at Hello@WestwoodStoneCompany.com, fill out our Contact Us form, or give us a call at 850-446-6262.

How do I provide my countertop layout?

The best way is to email your floorplans or cabinet plans to Hello@WestwoodStoneCompany.com. If you don’t have either, that’s ok — even a rough sketch will help our team in providing you with an estimate. Use a tape measure to measure your current countertops, wall to wall. Countertop depth is pretty standard, but take note of any areas like a bar, peninsula, island, or anything with overhang that might be deeper than your standard countertop. Bringing in a sketch of your layout is super helpful. And it never hurts to take photos of your space so that we have a visual to accompany your sketch.

Do I need to schedule an appointment to visit the showroom?

Nope! Our showroom and slab yard are open Monday through Friday, 9am–4pm, and our design consultants are ready to assist. If you’d prefer a Saturday or an after-4pm visit, just let us know and we’re happy to accommodate your schedule with an appointment.

What is your typical lead time?

Once your final stone selection is made and your estimate is approved, we’ll schedule your template appointment. We aim to install your countertops approximately two weeks after your template appointment. The two week timeline starts upon approval of your template, so the sooner you get started the sooner we can get your new countertops installed! This lead time can fluctuate depending on the season and our schedule — be patient with us, please!

What should I bring to the showroom when selecting a stone?

Shopping for your perfect stone countertop should be fun! You don’t need to bring a thing, but if you have any inspiration photos, cabinet colors, paint swatches, or tile samples, feel free to bring those in. Our design consultants will help guide you to the perfect fit for your budget, aesthetic, and lifestyle. The layout for your countertop project plays a large role in your estimate. If you have floorplans or cabinet layouts, bring those in as well.

How do I prepare for my template appointment?

If you have existing cabinetry, your current countertops should be completely cleared of items and appliances before the template can proceed.

If you're getting new cabinetry, the cabinets must be installed and secured in their final position before the template can proceed.

Any customer-provided sinks must be on site, along with cooktops, faucets, and any additional appliances that could impact fabrication. If you have a farmhouse / apron sink, it must be set in place within the cabinet (not plumbed), sitting ⅛″ below the top of the cabinet. Changes after template may incur additional costs and delay the installation date.

How do I prepare for my countertop installation?

Before our installers arrive, existing countertops should be clear of items and appliances, and all appliances should be on site. Please plan to schedule a licensed plumber for 24 hours after installation to reconnect your plumbing — this allows time for the sink adhesive to dry.

What's the main differences between each stone?

There are pros and cons to every stone countertop option, and we want to be transparent about all of them. Our goal is to empower and inspire our customers by sharing our industry knowledge so you can confidently select the perfect stone for your aesthetic, lifestyle, and budget. Check out our Stone Countertop Selection Guide to compare the pros and cons of each stone.

Can I use stone outdoors?

Natural stone can be used outdoors, but it’s important to know it can change when exposed to sun and weather — it may fade, new minerals may surface, and fissures may open over time. For outdoor installations we set wider “soft” silicone seams so the pieces can move with temperature changes. Please note that our Limited Lifetime Workmanship Warranty does not apply to stone installed outdoors. Quartz is not advised for outdoor use of any kind as it will yellow with long-term UV exposure.

What edge profiles do you offer?

Standard Edge Profiles: Eased Edge & Pencil Roll Edge
Upgraded Edge Profiles: Ogee Edge, Bullnose Edge, etc.

Can you use my countertop material for a full-height backsplash?

Yes! A full-height backsplash is a beautiful, low-maintenance upgrade. Some things to note — Because walls, cabinets, and floors are rarely perfectly square or flat, small gaps can occur where the stone meets cabinetry or an uneven wall; these are typically finished with trim or paintable caulk. Any electrical boxes should be left flush with the drywall, and longer screws may be needed once the stone is installed. If your project requires the backsplash to be templated after your countertops are installed, we’ll schedule that separately, with installation typically following within about a week.Upon countertop installation, our team will then template for your full-height backsplash to ensure as tight of a fit as possible. Typically the full-height backsplash template is scheduled for the day after countertop installation, with installation of the full-height backsplash scheduled approximately one week later.

What should I know about cooktops?

Your cooktop must be on site for your template appointment so we can cut an exact opening. Modern cooktops require large cutouts, which can leave a narrow rail of stone at the front and back. Please have the physical cooktop available at template; if you provide dimensions instead, we’ll ask you to sign off on them, as published appliance dimensions are not always accurate.

Do you remove (tear-out) my existing countertops?

Yes, in many cases we can remove your existing countertops. Please note the removal process can be moderately destructive, and minor drywall repair or touch-up paint may be needed afterward. Before we arrive, please remove anything you’d like to keep — such as faucets, soap dispensers, or special drains — as items left in place may be discarded. We do not remove cabinets, flooring, or wall/backsplash tile.

Do you connect or disconnect my plumbing?

We can dis-connect your plumbing, at which time we will utilize your shut-off valves. Since we are not licensed plumbers, please schedule a plumber to re-connect your sink, faucet, dishwasher, and any other plumbing a minimum of 24 hours after the countertop installation. This allows time for the sink adhesive to dry.

Can you move my electrical outlets?

We are not licensed electricians, therefore we cannot manage any electrical work.

Do you have a warranty?

Lifetime Workmanship Warranty: When you buy countertops from Westwood Stone Company, you’re backed by our Limited Lifetime Workmanship Warranty — we partner with you for the life of your countertops, and the warranty is transferable on any countertop we install. Standard repairs (chips, scratches, seam and sink issues) and etch/stain repairs are handled at no additional cost. Please see your Customer Agreement for full warranty details and exclusions.

Material Warranty: Engineered quartz is covered by a manufacturer's material warranty of a minimum of 15 years; the exact term and coverage vary by manufacturer and are provided directly by them. Due to the nature of natural stone, it does not carry a manufacturer's material warranty. Its naturally occurring characteristics, such as veining, pitting, fissures, and color and thickness variation, are inherent features of the stone rather than defects.

Care & Maintenance

How do I clean my new countertops?

The short answer: a microfiber cloth with pH-neutral dish soap and warm water.Always avoid: no matter which stone you choose, avoid abrasive products (such as Soft Scrub or Comet) and abrasive pads (such as Magic Erasers or Scotch-Brite). Also avoid oil-based soaps, dyes, lemon juice, vinegar, citric acid, ammonia, paint thinner, acetone, nail polish, lacquer thinner, and bleach.

Quartz: nonporous and easy to clean daily with microfiber, pH-neutral soap, and warm water. Clean spills promptly; for stubborn or greasy messes, a gentle liquid cleaner (Mr. Clean, 409, Simple Green, or Fantastik) works well.

Granite: a low-maintenance surface when you keep up with sealing. Clean daily with microfiber, pH-neutral soap, and warm water.

Marble, Dolomite & Calcite: softer stones that can stain more easily, so keep up with sealing and take care with acidic foods and liquids (red wine, citrus, etc.). Note that sealing helps prevent stains but does not prevent etching, where acids dull the surface. Some staining and etching should be expected over time.

Quartzite: Very dense and resistant to scratching and chipping, but it can stain and etch due to its porosity, so a consistent sealing schedule is important.

How do I re-seal my countertops?

Sealing your natural stone is a simple, crucial step to help protect against stains. Sealers don’t make stone “stain-proof,” but they make it much more resistant. You can buy a natural-stone sealer (also called an “impregnator”) at most hardware stores. Follow the directions on your specific product; generally: coat the surface with a rag or sprayer, allow it to absorb completely, and repeat until no more is absorbed, then blot up the excess.

The Droplet Test: apply a drop of water to the surface. If it beads or sits on top, your stone is properly sealed. If it absorbs, repeat the sealing process until it passes the test.

How often should I re-seal my countertops?

Only natural stones need to be sealed. Our installation team seals all natural stone at installation, but you’ll need to re-seal periodically to help prevent staining and keep cleaning easy. Use coasters, trivets, and placemats to protect against scratching, etching, and staining, and wipe up spills promptly.

Quartz: no sealing needed — ever!
Granite: every 12 months
Marble, dolomite & calcite: every 6 months
Quartzite: every 6 months.

Can I cut directly on my countertop surface?

Please don’t! Always use a cutting board — knives can damage both natural and engineered stone. This is especially true for softer natural stones (marble, dolomite, calcite) but applies to quartz as well.

Can I place a hot pot directly on my countertop surface?

We advise against placing hot pots on any stone surface. This is especially important with quartz, as temperatures above 150°F can scorch the surface, which is not repairable. Natural stones can technically withstand higher temperatures, but — why risk it? Always use a trivet or hot pad.
